Esta mañana fueron reveladas las nominaciones para los 90° Premios de la Academia. The Shape of Water dominó con 13 nominaciones incluyendo a Guillermo del Toro como Mejor Director. Three Billboards Outisde Ebbing, Missouri le sigue de cerca con 9 nominaciones, Dunkirk tiene 7, incluyendo a Christopher Nolan como Mejor Director (por fin!). Y aunque fue ignorada como Mejor Película, Blade Runner 2049 obtuvo 5 nominaciones en categorías técnicas.
Get Out fue la gran sorpresa, obteniendo 4 nominaciones en categorías importantes aunque si nos ponemos a pensar tantito, dichos honores son un obvio esfuerzo con calzador de La Academia para evitar otro ‘#OscarSoWhite’. Una grata sorpresa fue Logan, que se convierte en la primera película de superhéroes live-action que obtiene una nominación por Mejor Guión Adaptado.
Greta Gerwig se convierte en apenas la quinta mujer en ser nominada como Mejor Directora (por Lady Bird). Por su parte, Jordan Peele hizo historia al ser la tercera persona en la historia que obtiene nominaciones a mejor director, guión y película con su debut como director en Get Out.
Lamentablemente, The Disaster Artist fue ignorada por la Academia: no apareció entre la lista de Mejor Película y James Franco, quien venía ganando impulso con victorias en otros premios de Mejor Actor (Globos de Oro, Critic’s Choice), no recibió nominación al Oscar debido a recientes acusaciones no comprobadas de acoso sexual.
Otras ausencias importantes incluyen a Tom Hanks por The Post, The Killing of a Sacred Deer por Mejor Guión Original, Armie Hammer y Michael Stuhlbarg por Call Me By Your Name, Battle of the Sexes fallando en obtener una sola nominación, Patrick Stewart como Mejor Actor de Reparto por Logan y la peor de todas: The LEGO Batman no aparece en Mejor Película Animada cuando la mediocre Boss Baby sí.
